Women's Correctional Facility to Host Annual Plant Sale

Topeka Correctional Facility (TCF) will hold its annual plant sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday, May 9, through Saturday, May 14, on the grounds of the correctional facility located at 815 S.E. Rice Rd., Topeka. Proceeds from the sale benefit TCF inmate self-help groups such as Pooches and Pals, the Running Free Running Club, the African American Culture Group and Reaching Out From Within.

As a former high school student in Abilene, 18-year-old Dylan, whose real name is being withheld for privacy issues, had never considered graduating a goal or even relevant. But Thursday, earning a diploma had new meaning for the Larned Juvenile Correctional Facility (LJCF) resident whose expected release is in 2018.

KJCC Deputy Superintendent Joins Board of Directors for Performance-based Standards

Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex (KJCC) Deputy Superintendent Megan Milner recently was named to the board of directors for the Performance-based Standards (PbS) Learning Institute, an initiative of the Council of Juvenile Correctional Administrators that provides national standards for juvenile justice agencies, facilities and residential care providers.

KDOC and Department of Justice Sign Agreement

Effective today, the Kansas Department of Corrections and the U.S. Department of Justice have announced a mutual agreement which will allow for an independent monitor to oversee implementation of the agreement, including site visits to the Topeka Correctional Facility (TCF) to verify reform compliance and the general atmosphere of the facility.

Cost Study of Youth Residential Centers for Juvenile Offenders Released

The Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) today released its legislatively mandated report on Youth Residential Center II (YRCII) costs and services. Other than secure juvenile correctional facilities, YRCII placements constitute the largest youth programming expense in the KDOC budget. The cost study is now available online.
