EDCF Staff Member Tests Positive for COVID-19

Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) Secretary Jeff Zmuda announced today that one staff member working at El Dorado Correctional Facility (EDCF) tested positive for COVID-19. This is the fifth KDOC facility with confirmed cases, including Lansing Correctional Facility, Wichita Work Release Facility, Topeka Correctional Facility and Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex.

When most teachers graduate college, they picture being able to share their knowledge in a traditional classroom setting. For Andrea Black, GED instructor at El Dorado Correctional Facility, the thought of helping a group of people who many would write off as undeserving was enough to inspire her to pursue teaching within the walls of a prison.

Consistent with Governor Kelly’s Executive Order #20-52 requiring the use of facemasks in public places, beginning July 3rd, anyone entering KDOC buildings (facilities, parole offices, central office) will be required to wear a mask.
