As the result of the retirement of Winfield Correctional Facility Warden Conover, I have reviewed the strengths of the current Warden staff and the needs of all of the correctional facilities with Deputy Secretary Goddard.

April 10th through the 16th has been proclaimed by Governor Sam Brownback as Kansas Crime Victims’ Rights Week. This is a special week to honor crime victims and survivors and to thank those who assist victims each and every day.

Kansas Governor Mark Parkinson requested assistance from the National Institute of Corrections (NIC) to review the policies and training procedures related to staff sexual misconduct and cross gender supervision in the Kansas Department of Corrections, and in particular at the Topeka Correctional Facility. The report follows.

Kansas Secretary of Corrections Roger Werholtz announced today that the Department of Corrections will receive $289,768 under the federal Second Chance Act Prisoner Reentry Initiative to further advance the Kansas Offender Risk Reduction and Reentry Plan.
